Sisters
There is something unspeakably powerful about the bond between sisters. We've observed this with our Gran and her three sisters, with our mom and her two sisters, Megan sees it with her girls, and we experience it together - as sisters ourselves. We disagree, we laugh, we cry, we compromise, we celebrate. We're cut from the same cloth and can relate to each other in a way that no one else can.
Yesterday we celebrated the life of our mom's older sister, Carol. With her passing we were reminded, again, of the power of sisters.
Our mom was one of six children, surrounded by three brothers and two sisters. She fell in the middle amongst all six as well as the middle of the three girls. There is a sweet spot in being in the middle. Typically, being in the middle, in any form, lets you both learn from others and lead by example. You're a team player that adapts - dealing and coping with everyone. The middle provides you with a mentor but also allows you to be idolized by a younger sibling. The middle is often characterized as being patient and easy-going, probably because there is no benefit of being the oldest nor the consideration of being the baby. Our mom was just that, perfectly in the middle and she was so lucky to have Carol as an older sister and Patti as a younger sister.
There is a general thought in life; that you don't want to be the first nor do you want to be the last. Although our mom was the third born, she was the first to depart.
The night before our Aunt Carol passed away, our Aunt Patti - the youngest of the three girls - shared a vivid dream with us. In her dream, our mom told Carol, "it was time to let go". This dream is just further proof of the bond between sisters. Patti provided unwavering support to Carol and Family until our mom took hold of her hand. We take comfort knowing that Carol was supported by both her sisters as she ascended into Heaven.
This makes us think of our grandmother, Gran, singing Rosemary Clooney's "Sisters" as she did so many times throughout our childhood. Imagining her singing to us brings so much comfort because we know that there is something so special about the bond between sisters.

"Sisters, sisters
There were never such devoted sisters
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir
I’m here to keep my eye on her
Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome
She wore the dress and i stayed home
All kinds of weather
We stick together
The same in the rain or sun
Two different faces
But in tight places
We think and we act as one... haha
Those who've seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us
Many men have tried to split us up but no one can
Lord help the mister
Who comes between me and my sister
And lord help the sister who comes between me and my man
All kinds of weather we stick together
The same in the rain or sun
Two different faces but in tight places
We think and we act as one....uh huh"
